ADHD (With Or Without Hyperactivity)
At least 6 are necessary to determine whether the person has the condition or not
These symptoms must be present for at least 6 months to the degree that it is maladaptive and inconsistent with the person’s developmental level
These must be present prior to the age of 12
They must occur in two or more settings
Inattention
- Fails to pay close attention to detail or makes careless mistakes
- Has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities
- Does not appear to listen when spoken to directly
- Does not follow through on instructions or fails to finish work
- Has difficulty organizing tasks and activities
- Avoids or is reluctant to engage in tasks requiring sustained mental effort
- Loses things needed for activities
- Is easily distracted by extraneous stimuli
- Is forgetful in daily activities
Hyperactivity (ADHD)
- Fidgets with hands/ feet or squirms in seat
- Has difficulty remaining seated when required to do so
- Runs inappropriately and climbs (excessively)
- Has difficulty playing quietly
- Appears driven or “on the go”
- Talks excessively
Impulsivity
- Blurts out answers to questions before them being completed
- Has difficulty awaiting a turn
- Interrupts or intrudes on others
