Language-Learning Disabilities
- Labelled lazy, dumb, careless, immature, or “not trying hard enough”
- High in I.Q, yet may not test well academically
- Has unusual developmental stages (crawling, walking, talking)
- Thinks with images or feelings, not the sound of words (little internal dialogue)
- Seems to ‘zone out’, or daydreams a lot
- Excellent memory for events such as remembering movies, but poor memory for sequences like math facts or phone numbers
- Bedwetting beyond appropriate age
- High or low tolerance for pain
When A Person Has Limited Literacy Skills, (See The List On Dyslexia) Other Areas Of Trouble Include:
- Attendance and follow-through
- Trouble remembering names and faces
- Difficulty determining direction and spatial relationships
- Taking longer to answer questions, giving unclear answers
- Difficulty putting thoughts into words, stuttering under stress, mispronouncing long words or transposing phrases/ words when speaking“Shutting down” with new instructions
- Trouble remembering multi-step oral instructions
- Need questions reworded
- Difficulty taking telephone messages
- Difficulty with time management
- Problems with change
- ‘Shutting down’ with new instructions
- ‘Giving up’ too easily
